StayWell at Home/ Bienestar en Casa is a CBT-based text messaging program to help people cope with stress and anxiety due to COVID-19 and social distancing. The program is freely available in both English and Spanish. Interested individuals do not need to register as a study participant to receive the free text messaging program. 

Research Component:

The two-arm randomized controlled trial will examine the effect of a text-messaging intervention to help people deal with stress and anxiety during social distancing. Participants are be randomized into 1) a random messaging arm, where message categories and timings will be chosen randomly, and 2) a reinforcement-learning arm, with a learned decision mechanism for choosing the messages. Participants receive a message per day for 60 days; the messages are based on CBT and include coping skills, social support, and behavioral activation. The purpose of this study is to examine if automated text-messages will improve depression and anxiety symptoms and enhance positive mood. Participant recruitment for this study will be conducted fully online.
